The New York City-based Money Management Institute (MMI) named Team SCALE its 2024 winner of the Executive IQ Capstone Innovation Project. Thirteen teams in the Executive IQ one-year executive-level professional accelerator and certification program competed in the final three-month project.

In the program, MMI and its partners combine “a university-backed curriculum with real-world case studies from the industry’s most prestigious consultants and Fortune 500 companies,” for investment leaders with at least 10 to 15 years of experience, according to the industry group.

Team SCALE developed a tool that provides company leaders with data-based insights regarding the utilization of SaaS products to eliminate redundancy, cut costs and increase efficiency across an enterprise.

The team included Gui Costin, Founder and CEO of Dakota; Michael Dunphy, VP, Software Engineering at Vestmark; Raquel Galan, Senior Marketing Manager, North America at LSEG, Clay King, Senior Vice President, Divisional Sales Director at Invesco; and Marco Vala, Managing Director, Technology at iCapital.

“I’m proud of how each team challenged the status quo and took thoughtful action within these prototypes,” said MMI President and CEO Craig Pfeiffer. “The participants of this year’s cohort are poised to shape our industry for years to come, and their achievements are a testament to the power of the Executive IQ program.”

PwC and the University of Virginia’s Darden Executive Education & Lifelong Learning program worked together with MMI to support the teams as they put into practice lessons taught throughout the program about technology, digital disruption, leadership and embracing a growth mindset. Each team then applied the PwC innovation prototype model as they were tasked to identify an industry problem and develop an innovative prototype to address this issue.

“Reviewing this year’s Capstone Innovation Projects was not an easy task, as this incredibly talented and creative cohort leveraged their diversity of experiences, ideas and approaches to deliver incredible results,” said Richard Evans, Professor at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, and faculty advisor to the Executive IQ program. “Each team … presented fantastic solutions to real industry problems, and I fully expect to see these concepts put into practice across the industry.”
