Following our Pathfinder Awards in February and March celebrating Black History Month and Women’s History Month, respectively, by calling out excellent leadership and professional achievement in financial advisors and wealth management executives of underrepresented communities and backgrounds, this month we announce our third group of winners for the year, the Top AAPI Industry Leaders of 2024, in honor of AAPI Heritage Month. Addressing stereotypes: Helen Yang, Founder and CEO of Andes Wealth Technologies, addresses stereotypes, hard and rewarding work, and career advice for women of AAPI heritage. Yang is the Top AAPI Industry Leaders of 2024 winner in the category of Entrepreneur of the Year.

Affinity groups: Viraj B. Patel, Executive Vice President and Head of Asset Allocation at Fiduciary Trust International, describes the benefits of heritage affinity groups, creating a diverse and inclusive environment and how to lead in asset management. Patel is the Top AAPI Industry Leaders of 2024 winner in the category of Asset Management Executive of the Year.

Turning heirs into clients: Todd Rovak, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Carefull, discusses advantages and strategies to reach clients’ heirs, including reaching out to clients’ trusted contacts, communicating before a problem surfaces and leveraging technology to protect senior clients.

On top of the game: How can advisors serve the unique needs of professional athletes? We speak with Kevin Keefe, Chief Executive Officer of Realta Wealth; Marc Specht, Partner and Head of Sports & Entertainment at Perigon Wealth Management; and James Corrigan, Managing Partner at Burnham Harbor Private Wealth, a Sanctuary Wealth partner firm, on how their firms are serving this niche clientele.

Orion taps Envestnet veteran: Orion named industry veteran Ron Pruitt as President of its wealth management division. Pruitt previously served as Senior Vice President of Nasdaq Analytics and Executive Vice President at Envestnet. Pruitt and Orion CEO Natalie Wolfsen comment.

Marcoms acquisition: Gregory FCA acquired BackBay Communications in a transaction the firms said will create the sixth largest U.S. firm in financial services strategic communications. BackBay will continue to operate with its trade name under the leadership of Bill Haynes. Gregory FCA’s CEO and Founder Greg Matusky and Co-Owner, President and Head of its financial services division, Joe Anthony, provide comments.

Experienced CTO: Sanctuary Wealth lured Robert Coppola from Envestnet to serve as its new Chief Technology Officer. Coppola and firm CEO Adam Malamed comment.

Northern partnership: FusionIQ announced an integration to provide third-party portfolio management software to Interactive Brokers Canada. The firm’s CEO, Mark Healy, provides comments, along with Howard Atkinson, Head of Business Development at FusionIQ Canada.

LPL’s big recruiting win: LPL Financial announced the recruitment of $4.6 billion Pilot Financial to its broker-dealer, RIA and custodial platforms. Pilot previously affiliated with Lincoln Financial. Pilot’s Partner and Manager, Chris Roney, and LPL’s EVP, Business Development, Scott Posner, provide comments.
