The Money Management Institute (MMI) has teamed up with NYU Stern Executive Education to launch Academy, a three-week development program for investment professionals in the early stages of their career. The program, which begins in April, is for people who’ve worked in the industry for five years or less.

Individuals who are accepted into the program will complete an online graduate-level curriculum, participate in experiential workshops at leading industry firms and attend an in-person residency at NYU Stern School of Business. Successful completion of this hybrid experience will equip participants with NYU Stern Executive Education co-branded certificates, professional upskilling and an expanded network.

“Investing in professional development opportunities for employees is critical for firms to survive and thrive in today’s world,” said Tim Williams, Director of Education Initiatives at MMI. “Firms in the investment management industry can now rely on MMI to provide all levels of their organization with timely education, necessary upskilling, and invaluable networking opportunities.”

MMI’s more than 200 member firms represent approximately $10.5 trillion in assets under management as of the third quarter of 2023, according to Williams. The launch of Academy could further fuel membership growth for the organization.

“Our focus is on member engagement – and specifically engagement of emerging talent in our industry,” Williams said.

“[This year] is a pilot year for Academy, so we look forward to learning from this inaugural experience, but we believe it’s all upside. Every time we put good people together – especially in a learning environment – the connections amongst MMI members and their involvement within MMI grows.”

The launch of Academy means that MMI now offers development programs for every stage of the professional journey.

“There are so many ways to engage with MMI both on a personal level as well as on a corporate level – from our professional communities that share best practices and industry trends to our conferences, events and online discussions to thought leadership,” Williams added. “Specific to professional development programs, MMI provides two other programs, Leadership Pathway for emerging leaders with 5-10 years of career experience and Executive IQ® for senior leaders with more than 10 years of career experience.”

Participants in Academy will also gain access to MMI content, webinars, roundtables and events, and get discounted access to accreditations from CFA Institute, CAIA, Fi360 and Investments and Wealth Institute. NYU Stern Executive Education certificate programs are led by Stern’s world-renowned faculty and are designed for executives to retool, advance and expand their skills and knowledge.

For participants’ firms, Academy offers a path toward retention and development of key young professionals, while also saving the time and resources needed to train new talent.

“We are proud to collaborate with NYU Stern Executive Education to offer Academy, which we know will have a profound impact on participants and their firms, and we hope this incredible learning opportunity will enhance the career growth of the industry’s early talent,” said Craig Pfeiffer, President and CEO of MMI.

Academy is now accepting applications through March 22 for this spring’s program on the MMI website.
