Fall Conference Season: Integrating Marcoms With Events

Larry Roth, CEO, Wealth Solutions Report

Plus Our Weekly Recruitments Roundup, Magic Versus Fundamentals In Marketing, The Alpha Opportunities Of VC And Berthel Fisher’s Latest Recruit And Executive Hire

To My Fellow WSR Community Members:

Summer brings us great things, but one crucial element to our businesses and personal happiness takes a backseat: in-person events. Modern electronic means have allowed us to build connections nationwide that enhance our work and community, but those connections need human, face-to-face touchpoints. This is why I am excited for the return of conferences and events in the fall.

On that note, our Managing Editor, Chris Latham, is currently at the ECHELON Partners Deals & Dealmakers Summit meeting you – some long-term acquaintances and some for the first time. Our team looks forward to many more in-person meetings throughout the fall.

This week, we bring you expert advice on how to integrate event management with marketing and communications efforts in our inaugural Marcoms Roundtable. Going forward, this column will bring you the insights of marketing and communications leaders on topics that matter to our industry.

In addition, we bring the views of another marcoms leader, who argues that fundamentals, not magic solutions, are the key to marketing success; an expert view on how venture capital can generate increased alpha for financial advisors; our Weekly Recruitment Roundup; and Berthel Fisher’s latest hire and recruit.

This Week’s Issue

Here’s what we have on tap this week:

  • Which firm is moving $50 billion in assets? In Newsmakers & Roundups, this edition of Weekly Recruitments features Avantax onboarding CFR Capital Group and Summit Wealth Advocates, Berthel Fisher recruiting MP Butterworth & Associates, Creative Planning acquiring CTB Financial Services, Hightower facilitating the sub-acquisition of Trellis for Highland, Prudential moving assets from Fidelity to LPL, Modern Wealth Management appointing three executives to boost RIA acquisitions and Bluespring Wealth Partners transitioning David Canter out as President.
  • How do you integrate marcoms with events? In the Wallet Share section, we ask three veteran marketing and communications executives how to successfully integrate marcoms with the management of events: Jason Lahita, Founding Partner of StreetCred PR; Marie Swift, Founder and CEO of Impact Communications; and Rob Farmer, Managing Director, Head of Communications of The Rudin Group.
  • What’s the magic solution in marketing? It doesn’t exist, according to Intention.ly Co-Founder and CEO Kelly Waltrich. In our Expert Resources section, she dispels this myth and explains that marketing must be grounded in fundamentals, and only when a firm has conquered the fundamentals can it “swing for the fences.”
  • What advantages allow for VC funds to generate enhanced alpha, and how can financial advisors benefit from this? In Investment Solutions & Gatekeepers, Matthew Malone, Head of Investment Management at Opto Investments, describes factors that can increase alpha for a VC fund – including active adding of value, networks, industry expertise and information asymmetries – and finishes with a warning.

In case you missed it, last week we brought you:

  • Who’s recruiting for both organic and inorganic growth? In Newsmakers & Roundups, Iowa-based Berthel Fisher Companies hired Nate Spencer as Vice President of Business Development and recruited Pennsylvania-based MP Butterworth & Associates, which is run by a father-son duo who oversees approximately $85 million in assets under management (AUM). In recent months, Berthel Fisher has recruited more than a dozen advisors and brought in over $165 million in AUM.
