Plus, GP Stakes Investing for FA Clients and Advising on Employee Stock Options Before Exercise

To My Fellow WSR Community Members:

Hard times aren’t bad times unless we learn nothing from them. Difficulties often lead to innovations and self-education that make us better professionals with larger toolkits we can use both in rising and declining markets for the rest of our careers.

Keep growing your toolkit!

This week we examine some solutions coming to the fore in 2022 to serve the needs of the hour in crypto, GP stakes as well as employee stock and restricted share compensation.

This Week’s Issue

Here’s what’s on tap this week:

Crypto winter won’t last forever
  • Is anything good about the current “crypto winter?” In the Digital Domain, Rob Frasca, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of COSIMO Ventures, explores crypto markets against the backdrop of history, demonstrating that the downturn in cryptoassets and blockchain technology will weed out non-performers and bring needed regulation, ultimately resulting in better markets.
  • Are GP stakes the alts you’re looking for? In our Investment Solutions & Gatekeepers section, Christopher Zook, the Founder, Chairman and CIO of CAZ Investments, introduces us to the pros and cons of GP stakes investing, the types of clients it may suit – including institutions, foundations, families and high net worth clients – and how an advisor can get started.
Get advice before you exercise!
  • Should you wait until an employee exercises stock options to advise them? In our Upmarket section Bill Dillhoefer, the CEO of Net Worth Strategies, which produces the StockOpter software tools for advising on employee restricted shares and options, says you can reach new clients if you provide advice before they exercise or sell to optimize their returns and save taxes.

In case you missed it, last week Jeremy Holly, Chief Development and Integration Officer at SageView Advisory Group, wrote in our Capital Connections section that the post-closing integration of an M&A deal outweighs the closing in complexity and difficulty, and counsels on a two-stage analysis necessary to ensure you have the right acquisition or merger partner for the long run before closing the deal.

Are there any wealth management innovations you’d like us to cover? Let us know your ideas, thoughts and questions for the experts!

Please share what you learned here with your friends via email and LinkedIn!

Have a great week!

Cheers!
