SageView’s Appointment of Jorge Bernal as COO Latest in String of Top Exec Hirings

SageView Advisory Group hired Jorge Bernal, formerly a Managing Director and co-Head of Advisory Services for Goldman Sachs Personal Financial Management, as Chief Operating Officer.

As COO, Bernal will be tasked with oversight of operations and strategic leadership, including formation and execution of the firm’s strategic vision, ensuring client experience and maximizing scale and efficiency. He will report to Randy Long, Founder and CEO.

Long stated that Bernal’s “experience leading complex and diverse organizations and successful track record strengthen SageView’s ability to deliver superior service and support for our advisors across our qualified retirement plan and wealth management teams.”

In his previous role with Goldman Sachs, Bernal led a team of over 250 financial advisors with approximately $35 billion in assets. Prior to that, Bernal served as COO at United Capital Financial Advisors, a Senior Vice President at Fidelity Investments, a Managing Director at JP Morgan Chase and Vice President of Customer Service & Sales at Citibank.

SageView’s Growth Strategy and Recent Executive Hirings

With a long history of retirement services and over $170 billion in retirement plan assets, SageView’s efforts to grow its wealth management business with the backing of Aquiline Capital Partners has positioned the firm with over $4 billion in wealth management assets through organic expansion and acquisitions, including six in the past year. SageView plans to continue acquisitional growth throughout 2022.

Bernal’s hiring is the latest of several senior appointments to strengthen the executive bench at SageView. This year, SageView hired Jim Dario as Head of Wealth Management and Tara Egan as Managing Director, Human Resources. In 2021, the firm hired Tony Notermann as CFO and Jeremy Holly as Chief Development and Integration Officer.

New Hires in Retirement Plan Consulting

SageView concurrently announced the expansion of its Retirement Plan Consulting teams with the addition of Cullen Reif in Minneapolis and Andrew Ness in Richmond, Virginia.

Strengthening the team!

Reif’s responsibilities will include guiding investment committees in the areas of plan design strategy, fee benchmarking, new client relationships and fiduciary responsibilities.

Ness, a retirement plan consultant who supports tax-exempt plan sponsors primarily with state retirement programs, will strengthen the firm’s retirement advice capabilities.
