Kicking Off Black History Month, Rising Interest Rates Affect Recruiting, the Latest from the Beltway, M&A in Double-Digit Billions and Bizarre Industry News

Wealth Solutions Report
To My Fellow WSR Community Members:
The end of January and early February is a wonderful time despite the chilly temps outdoors with great traditions including the chocolates and hearts of Valentine’s Day, the quirky forecasting of Groundhog Day, FSI OneVoice and Black History Month.
As a quick note, I’m here in person at FSI OneVoice, so if you haven’t had a chance to connect with me yet, please do say hello – And let me know if there are any insights or analysis that you’d like our team of editors and research analysts at WSR to cover. Your suggestions are always welcome!

For Black History Month, we’ll be spotlighting individuals who we believe are top African American independent financial advisors, as well as top African American C-suite leaders across large and fast-growing wealth management firms.
In addition, we have expert insights on rising interest rates increasing revenues available for advisor recruitment and the latest insights from the financial industry’s top advocacy organization.
We also cover many captivating stories this week in two recurring curated news compilations, from a Canadian M&A invasion and brisk advisor recruitment to murder, racist rants and odd happenings among (now former) employees at Dave Ramsey’s firm.
This Week’s Issue

Here’s what we have for you this week:
- To my chagrin – and back like a bad penny thanks to popular acclaim from the WSR community – Contributing Editor & Research Analyst James Miller is leading yet another tour through the most unusual stories in the wealth management industry in the Bizarre Industry Bazaar section. James is an infinite pit of angry despair, but for some reason, our readers can’t get enough of him. No accounting for taste, I suppose.
- We’ve also provided the latest installment of Transitions, Transactions & Promotions, compiled by Senior Contributing Editor Julius Buchanan in our Newsmakers Roundup section. This month, we’re covering CI Financial’s M&A transactions in the blistering double-digit billions, an important promotion at Cetera, advisor recruitment at a clipper pace and strategic alliances highlighting the coming-of-age of artificial intelligence and investors’ rising interest in private credit.

- In Upmarket, Jeff Nash, CEO of BridgeMark Strategies and Chair of WSR’s Recruiting Roundtable, shares his expert views on how rising revenues from cash sweeps as a result of increased interest rates can create opportunities for IBDs and RIAs to sweeten recruiting deals, as well as the upper bound factors for spending on recruits. It’s fascinating perspective that follows closely on last week’s M&A Roundtable in our Capital Connections section.
Additionally, please keep an eye out for the following articles that will appear shortly:
- Our On the Rise section recognizes Top African American Independent Financial Advisor Ken Royster, President and CEO of First Genesis of Virginia. First Genesis is affiliated with Stratos Wealth Partners, and Ken Royster’s commitment to Black empowerment and the development of intergenerational wealth is noteworthy.
- In the Beltway & Beyond section, we’ll be sharing an exclusive Q&A with FSI’s Dale Brown on the key highlights and takeaways from the broader independent wealth management industry based on the top advocacy organization’s flagship OneVoice event held this year in Dallas, Texas.
